A story that started with one family
Amego’s origin reflects an important period in the history of disability services. Before Massachusetts enacted its landmark special education laws, one family rejected institutional placement for their child with autism and advocated for a community-based alternative. That advocacy became Amego.
Today, Amego supports more than 400 individuals and families across Massachusetts through a comprehensive continuum of care. Its services include a day school, residential programs for children and adults, adult day programs, in-home and community-based clinical services, and a diagnostic assessment center.
Few organizations offer this breadth of support. Amego partners with individuals and families from childhood through adulthood, helping them pursue meaningful goals at every stage of life.
Evidence-based care at every stage
A commitment to evidence-based, individualized care connects Amego’s programs. Applied behavior analysis informs services across settings, with behavior analysts collaborating with individuals, staff members, families, and caregivers to pursue meaningful and socially significant outcomes.
At Amego, clinical excellence is not a separate initiative. It is part of the organization’s foundation.
Helping shape the conversation about AI
Amego is now bringing that same spirit of inquiry to the growing use of artificial intelligence in ABA.
Dr. Hazel Baker, BCBA-D, Senior Director of Training and Professional Development at Amego, is collaborating with Dr. Amanda Randall and colleagues from The NEEDS Center to examine how ABA professionals currently use and perceive AI, including its potential benefits, limitations, and ethical considerations.
This work reflects Amego’s broader commitment to asking important questions, carefully evaluating emerging practices, and contributing to the continued development of the field.
